On February 10th, 2021 at around 13:19 EST our systems detected some downtime on our system. Upon the initial notification, our Engineering Team started to investigate the issue. We initially investigated to see if there were any issues on our host’s end and concluded that there wasn’t. This led us to investigate our servers to find the root issue. During this time we also filed a report to our host to ask them to investigate the issues as well. After a brief investigation that we completed, we had reason to believe that this was a denial-of-service attack. We awaited a response from our host for more information. Our site was back online at around 16:11 EST.
On February 11th, 2021 at around 10:21 EST our systems detected downtime on our system. We investigated this issue once again and it seemed that it was in connection with the string of outages experienced on February 10th, 2021. At 11:08 EST we received a response from our host, they believed that it was indeed a denial-of-service attack and escalated the request to engineering in order to initiate Cloudflare DDoS protection. At 14:51 EST we made contact with our host’s engineering team and they confirmed that we were a victim of a denial of service attack. This denial of service attacks caused hundreds of thousands of requests to be made to our website each hour which ultimately took our server capacity down. The engineer notified us that they have initiated Cloudflare DDoS protection and would monitor these events for the next few days.
We thank you all for your patience.
